
The course aims to provide students with knowledge of the purpose and objectives of translation, its key concepts and terminology, as well as the analytical and critical role of translating scientific, informative, and literary texts. It seeks to develop and strengthen students’ translation competence by forming practical translation skills based on the topics covered in lectures.
By thoroughly studying the main topics and integrating each with subsequent ones, students are expected to acquire and reinforce translation strategies and methods, gaining practical experience in their application.
Furthermore, the course introduces students to the theoretical foundations of translation studies, including its principal concepts, categories, laws, and principles, and equips them with the ability to apply this theoretical knowledge in practice. It provides training in translation techniques and operations, focusing on both theoretical and practical aspects of translation from a foreign language into the mother tongue and vice versa.
Students will also study the distinctive features of translating scientific, informative, and literary texts, methods of recreating texts in the target language, and approaches to lexical, stylistic, phraseological, grammatical, and phonetic analysis. The course ultimately aims to develop and consolidate students’ professional translation skills and competences.
